| The Center for Creative Aging at Harold Washington College |
| A Letter From The President |

| Dear Friends, |
| As you may have noticed, the demographic profile of the Chicago loop is rapidly
changing, especially in regard to age. The increasing numbers of individuals age 50 and older who
live and work in the loop and nearby neighboorhoods is keeping pace with the steady rise in newly
constructed residential buildings in downtown Chicago and the national graying of the workforce.
|
| The Chicago Department of Aging and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, as
well as the City's many public and private educational, cultural, spiritual, medical, wellness,
recreational, and business institutions are acutely aware of these changing demographics and are
responding in ways appropriate to their specific missions, clienteles, and locations. Yet in spite
of the rich and varied array of programs and services already being offered, there still are
opportunities to further enrich the lives of "boomers" and other active older adults in downtown
Chicago and to ensure that their presence benefits the community optimally.
|
| We believe that HWC has a responsibility to join other institutions and organizations
committed to identifying the specific interests, assets and needs of these populations by providing
them with programs of interest that will support healthy and meaningful lives. I am therefore delighted
to announce that Harold Washingon College has established The Center for Creative Aging. It will
offer affordable programs for older mid-life Chicagoans in the areas of personal development, holistic
health, retraining for paid and volunteer employment, opportunities for service to the community, and
training for professionals in the field of aging.
|
| This website was designed to give you an overview of our proposed activities. We invite
you to participate in the development of this exciting Center.
|
| Most sincerely, |
| John R. Wozniak, |
| President, Harold Washington College |
